I'm a professional American historian--a tenured professor with a book published, classes to teach, the whole deal. I spend a lot of time with my students establishing what historical evidence is, and how you make a good historical argument. I'm a serious amateur bassist too.
All the serious historical evidence points to Jamerson in this. All of it. Carol Kaye claims to have played the line (on "I was made to love her" and others), but the only evidence she offers is her word, and the claim that other people are all lying. I've got nothing against either Jamerson or Kaye, but the hard evidence all points to Jamerson. If any evidence fot he other side shows up, I'd be happy, delighted, to change my opinion. But as it stands there's no question who played those lines
