Hi!

I am not a bass player, but have always had a fascination for the bass and have a great ear for music. I love the Motown Sound and I am a HUGE fan of James Jamerson, but I am ashamed to say, that I never knew very much about him personally until about a year ago.

I was born in 1960, so I grew up listening to and dancing to the Motown Sound and the grooving basslines of James Jamerson, one of my favorites being, "I'll Be In Trouble", by the Temptations. If that bassline on that record can't get you up and dancing, or claapping your hands, at least, you're considered "DEAD" to me. (smile)

No, he didn't get the recognition he deserved and that saddens me. Even Marvin Gaye regretfully admitted in his liner notes of the album "What's Goin On?", that he should have done a special thanks to Jamerson, because he was the reason that the album got finished. The album is a classic and one of my all-time favorites. James Jamerson is the man and I'm glad that he is finally being recognized!

Thank you for this site, and thank you for allowing this non-bass playing lady to put in her two cents! But then, maybe you guys could give me some lessons? (smile)
