Eva, welcome to the club! I didn't know anything about Jamerson himself until fairly recently; I just always had those Motown bass lines in my head, and they would come out in my playing at times. Never exactly, but James' syncopation and use of melodic 3rds and 5ths when other players were pedaling on the tonic was inspirational. I started playing hard rock, and was the only guy around adding those kinds of things into the basslines in that genre, at least back in early 1970s midwest!
