I don't know if what you did will have a bad effect on how the bass plays. If it made a little hump in the fret space then I would say it create a little intonation point but any slide up to that point will not be affected. I would finish it the way it is, play it a bit and then decide if I were going to redo the job which, I presume would entail getting the right size saw and sawing the filler out and replace it with thin strips. As a matter of fact, so to speak, If you know you would not want this neck to become fretted again then, you can make the saw the same size as the veneers you would be gluing into place rather than being concerned about keeping the slot to size to allow refretting later.
